Orlando Drum is an industrial container & recycling facility that is dedicated to helping the environment through recycling and disposal of steel and plastic environmental drums. Many businesses, both large and small, utilize steel and plastic drums and have trouble getting rid of them in an environmentally friendly way. Orlando Drum is proud to work with facilities throughout Florida to help avoid growing piles of barrels and drums that are no longer useful.
Why Steel Drums Are an Eco-Friendly Option
Environmentally friendly packaging options ultimately come down to which materials are the most sustainable and reusable over a long period of time. While plastic drums and packaging materials have the potential to be reused and recycled, they frequently end up in landfills or even worse, polluting the environment and ending up in our oceans.
There is a reason that steel is the world’s most recycled product. The durability of steel drums make them ideal for transporting and storing goods. Steel is designed to withstand extreme conditions, which makes it perfect for multiple uses, and also lowers its life-cycle cost. By sterilizing with heat and water, steel drums can be reconditioned to allow distributors many uses before recycling the material. Steel is also just as durable when recycled as it is new, making it possible to recycle steel multiple times without any loss in quality.
Environmental Drum Recycling and Disposal
Orlando Drum and Container picks up and receives used, empty, steel and plastic drums everyday, keeping them out of landfills and away from the public. These drums are either reconditioned and re-sold to be refilled or cleaned and turned into either steel or plastic scrap materials. This scrap material is transformed into a multitude of new products such as drain pipe, flower pots, and many other steel and plastic products.
Cleaning Process For Environmental Drums
We follow a careful, thorough cleaning process to make sure our drums meet UN safety regulations.
First the drums are unloaded, opened and inspected. The drums are then loaded on a progressive washer that takes them through stages of washing, rinsing and drying. The drums are then inspected. If the drums pass inspection they are capped and their labels are removed. The drums are then blasted to remove all exterior coatings and identifying marks. The drums are then inspected for any exterior imperfections. After the drums pass this inspection the chimes are re-rounded and the drums are ready to be leak tested. The drums are leak tested on our state of the art ultrasonic leak tester that can detect holes as small as 10,000 of an inch. After this the drums move into our automated paint booth allowing an exact amount of paint to be applied to give the coatings maximum performance and look each and every time. Upon drying the drums are loaded and ready for delivery.
If any of the drums do not pass any of our three inspections or are unable to meet the current UN safety regulations they are washed, crushed, and recycled into a raw steel resource.
